As you are aware, despite our best efforts, we are now unable to open for EYFS, Y1 and Y6 as planned. We have been notified by the Local Authority that some unions have raised significant concerns about the safety of schools being ready to open. Unfortunately, they have yet to reach agreement at government and local authority level, and have now made it clear that they will act against any school in Nottinghamshire planning to reopen next week. The guidance from Nottinghamshire Local Authority said. "Unions will be advising their members that requirements in relation to consultation have not been met and, in their view, no school could open safely to more children at this point in time. They have also stated that they will communicate with each school opening next week with a view to escalating concerns to the Health and Safety Executive and to the press."

We have had to pause our plans to welcome more children back to school. We know and are very concerned that this news may well be problematic and frustrating for you, especially coming through to you on a Friday afternoon. The reasons for the delay are questions around safety. Some unions have raised significant concerns about this nationally, not specifically with our school. It’s important that these questions are considered. While we very much want as many children in school as possible, it’s so important to do this the right way. Your child is precious to us as well as to you, and we value our wonderful staff.

Until yesterday we thought we knew what needed to be done. The sudden pause is beyond our control and we are working hard together to find solutions. Until this is done, we can only continue our provision for vulnerable children and those of key workers as before. I will stay in touch with you about how and when extended provision can be provided, with a commitment to doing this as soon as possible and as safely as possible.

    Thank a teacher day

    Dear Parents,
I have been made aware that Wednesday 20th May is ‘National Thank A Teacher Day’. I have to say I have never heard of it…. However, I am also aware that I have the most amazing team of teachers and teaching assistants and wider staff and therefore I have attached a PDF that was sent to me to share with you. Your child might like to ‘come off timetable’ and do something for their teacher. Just a thought – the staff won’t see this note. Thank you in advance. Stay safe!

Letter from the Head of Children Services at Nottinghamshire County Council

    Dear Parent/Carer

Please find attached a letter from the Head of Children Services at Nottinghamshire County Council Mr Colin Pettigrew. The letter was only received last night and I am forwarding it now as I am acutely aware that things are changing in relation to advice for schools on almost a daily basis.

I will be in touch with more information in relation to Woodborough Wood's re-opening once we have been able to interpret the advice and complete thorough risk assessments towards the safety of all children and staff from 1st June.

Should you have any observations or comments that you wish to share with Mr Pettigrew, his contact email address is at the top of the attached letter.

    Yours sincerely
    Mr Hopwell
