Art

Vision

Art and Design is an essential part of the primary curriculum. At Woodborough Woods, children explore and develop their skills and creativity using a wide range of media. We value the use of sketch books and encourage the importance of experimentation, exploration and pushing ideas in imaginative ways. Art allows the child to develop their imagination and creativity, to make connections through their inventive minds and gives children the skills to record their imagination and ideas. While it is essentially a practical subject, art should provide opportunities for reflection and pupils should acquire the ability to make informed, critical responses of their own work and that of others. At Woodborough Woods, we aim to provide an art curriculum whereby children can grow to discover and develop their own individual talents.

Creating Together with Woodborough Art Group

We are thrilled to collaborate with the Woodborough Art Group, a vibrant community of local artists who meet at the Woodborough Institute every Thursday morning, 10:00 am – 12:30 pm. As part of this special partnership, the group leads a creative, themed workshop with our classes every half-term.
During these workshops, children have the opportunity to explore their imagination and create their very own pieces of artwork, guided by the talented members of the Art Group. The students’ creations are proudly showcased in the Woodborough Art Group exhibitions, held over two open weekends each year, which feature a rich programme of guest artists and hands-on workshops.
This collaboration is a wonderful way for our pupils to engage with the local arts community, develop their creative skills, and be inspired by passionate artists.
 ‘Autumn 1 2025: Yr 1
Yr 1 had such a fantastic afternoon we have had with Woodborough Art Group!
The children used water colours to create tree trunks, leaf prints and used sponge to create different textures. We are very grateful for the lovely members of WAG for giving up their time to help us create these amazing pieces. Their trees are going to be put together to create a forest in school.
